Nor'easter In Mahwah: What To Know For Tuesday

MAHWAH, NJ — Monday's snowstorm brought plenty of snow and dangerous road conditions, and forecasts say there's more to come.

The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy snow, with totals potentially reaching 14-22 inches bringing "near blizzard conditions" to much of the tri-state area into Tuesday. Read more: Nor'easter Snowfall Totals In Bergen County

Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday that the state's six vaccine mega-sites would remain closed Tuesday, in anticipation of the continuing storm.

Appointments at the Bergen County site would be "rescheduled during extended hours throughout the week," his office said. Read more: Winter Storm Closes NJ Offices, COVID Vaccine Mega-Sites Tuesday

Strong winds are also expected, which the NWS said could down tree limbs or power lines.

"We are about to enter the worst of this storm. It is going to be very bad for the next 12 hours," Gov. Phil Murphy said on Twitter Monday.

Murphy said the early afternoon would be the "teeth" of the storm, and the state Department of Transportation had 3,900 pieces of equipment deployed to keep up with worsening road conditions.

The NWS said travel could be "difficult to impossible" during the storm, and, if comments from Bergen County officials are any indication, that equipment will be needed.

Mahwah Mayor Jim Wysocki said all township, county and state roads in the area were plowed and passable for some of the day, but as snow continued it became difficult for the Department of Public Works to keep up.

"Our Dpw crews are trying to keep up with it but it's difficult. We are now moving our efforts to keeping main roads open for emergency vehicles," he said.

Wysocki later reported that a car accident knocked out power for a segment of town residents.

Speaking from Route 17 in Ridgewood, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton said roadways were "kind of treacherous" and urged residents to stay off the road.
