Wyckoff officials reported 12-14 inches of snowfall as of 3 p.m. Monday.

Strong winds are also expected, which the NWS said could down tree limbs or power lines.

"We are about to enter the worst of this storm. It is going to be very bad for the next 12 hours," Murphy said on Twitter Monday.

Murphy said the early afternoon will be the "teeth" of the storm, and the state Department of Transportation has 3,900 pieces of equipment deployed to keep up with worsening road conditions.

The NWS said travel could be "difficult to impossible" during the storm, and, if comments from Bergen County officials are any indication, that equipment will be needed.

Speaking from Route 17 in Ridgewood, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton said roadways were "kind of treacherous" and urged residents to stay off the road. But more than anything, officials were urging Wyckoff residents to stay off the roads.

"We are currently experiencing the high point of the storm. Snow drifts are expected on roadways throughout the evening due to high winds making driving extremely hazardous," Wyckoff officials said.

"Please stay home and allow the DPW to clear the roads."

Volunteer firefighters and the ambulance corps are on stand-by at their respective headquarters in case they're needed, officials added.
