Prince of England Comes to Mahwah, NJ

MAHWAH, NJ- On Thursday September 20, employees at the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) North American headquarters were honored with a visit from Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, in a dedication ceremony commemorating the opening of their new building.

HRH Prince Edward stopped by the huge new facility where he went on a tour of the new fully renovated 144,000 square foot building in Mahwah (Hubbard). On his tour, he observed technical training classes, met with former armed forces members, and topped it off with a ceremony, presenting a plaque in his honor. After the ceremony, the prince had a quick lunch, a look at the company’s showroom, which included the 2019 I-PACE that is on sale this coming year. Before departing, he wrapped up his visit with a picture with members of the employee engagement committee, hand selected members of the JLR community, and executives of the company.

Formally the Sharp Electronics building, located at 100 Jaguar Land Rover Way, the building is situated on 12 acres of land. It houses a showroom, product research, training and a development center, with the total number of employees being around 400 people (Nobile).

While it might seem strange to have a royal in Mahwah, it is a tradition to have a member of the royal family visit new Jaguar Land Rover buildings. Prince Edward happened to be in the United States for a few weeks prior to his visit.

Jaguar manufactured the E-TYPE Zero, the car used by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to drive off from their highly publicized wedding. The royal family’s loyal patronage to Jaguar Land Rover can be traced back to King George, Queen Elizabeths father, whom she inherited the love of Land Rovers from. Recently, Prince Charles was seen driving his new all electric I-PACE for the first time.
