Services Set For Giovanni A. Pertuz, 'Dedicated' Mahwah Fireman
Pertuz always put the concerns of his family, his friends, and his community before his own, his family said.

MAHWAH, NJ — Giovanni Pertuz never put himself first. It was always his wife, his kids, his friends, and his community, then him.
Pertuz, a 12-year firefighter and president of Company 2, died unexpectedly Monday. He was 49.
Pertuz was the "proud and devoted father of two beautiful children," Matthew and Nicole, and was a loving husband to his wife, Linda, his obituary states.

"Giovanni will be remembered by so many as the ultimate family man, the model for community service and the ultimate optimist even in the most of difficult of times," his family said in the obituary. "His ability to touch the lives of so many with his infectious personality and smile were unique in of itself as he truly had a heart of gold."
Pertuz was graduated from Hackensack High School in 1987. He also attended Bergen Community College and the National Institute of Certified Engineering Technology. He owned Master Fire & Electric in Mahwah. He was a licensed electrician, and fire alarm installer, his LinkedIn profile states.

Pertuz was the kind of person who "you could talk to about anything" and was always helping others, said Mahwah Fire Department Chief Ken Warnet.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his parents, Jaime and Marlene Pertuz, and siblings, Jaime Pertuz of Elmwood Park and Steven D. Pertuz of Westwood.
"His ability to touch the lives of so many with his infectious personality and smile were unique in of itself as he truly had a heart of gold," his family said.
Visitation with the family is Monday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Service, 397 Union St., Hackensack.
A Mass of Christian burial is Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 47 Island Road, Mahwah. Burial will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a GoFundMe page set up to help his family.
