Voices inside my head
With all the craziness of the days we are living in I’ve found myself to be relegated to viewing or listening to entertainment or sports that I first sampled decades ago. Here are some observations
The NHL network has become an underrated gem for me. By replaying games of my youth the ice men have once again allowed me to enjoy the genius of Dan Kelly the voice of the St Louis Blues and Gene Hart the voice of the Philadelphia Flyers. Also it was great to hear Jiggs Mac Donald again teamed with Ed Westfall on NY Lowlife games. I first heard Jiggs in Atlanta as voice of the expansion Atlanta Flames. While at a game at the Omni the radio feed was pumped throughout the concourse. It was an interesting combination Jiggs with Boom Boom Geoffrion, I must say.
As I watched the replays and heard their calls my mind was transported to my teen age years when their voices rose right through my pillows ,,,,,,or so it seemed,

Equally enthralling has been Fox Sports cable, letting us experience the Summerall -Madden broadcasts of when the Giants counted. Like their predecessor Marty Glickman, Pat and John were just as big a part of our Sunday’s as Sunday dinner
Likewise MSG has also chimed in with Rangers memories when Jim Gordon and the Big Whistle filled the booth followed by Sam and JD.,,,,,,man Chadwick was something else he started with Marv on the radio

Even Ken Venturi reappeared as I revisited to great rounds of Golf
Sadly as I combined visions of grandeur with today’s sports talk.....yesterday was better
It’s clear that WFAN has lost a bit off its fastball but oddly old timers and new breeders have lost the same amount. In the last few years Imus Chris Russo and Tony Paige among others have left and what remains is underwhelming although to be fair our country’s pandemic has robbed stations of programming and some subject matter. The FAN’s lone original host Steve Sommers has apparently decided to forfeit times from sports subject matter to espouse his views on the Pandemic and it has become an assault on the ears and the mind as the day comes to a close. Incomplete and redundant Steve has become a colossal bore and has made me into a late night music listener.
Unfortunately the inadequacy of WFAN doesn’t stop there, it is time to mercifully put a stop to the Moose and Maggie experiment at 10 am....it failed. Marc Malussis is a versatile long time host on the FAN but his pairing with Maggie resembles a bad marriage with a nagging wife. Arguments just for the sake of arguments are never eNtertaining or productive in marriages, I’m told
One voice that has been refreshing and reassuring in these turbulent times is that of Franklin Graham. Eloquence, and compassion have been badly needed these past few months and Franklin has stepped up big time to in some way attempt to fill the huge gap we all have with the passing of his father
Here’s hoping there are better days ahead for all of us....hopefully we will soon here a voice say “Play Ball!”
