You'll Be Able To Turn Yourself Into A Lego At NY Legoland

The park's developers gave a peek at one of the attractions featured at the soon-to-be open NY Legoland - just over the border from NJ.

GOSHEN, NY - Ever wonder what you’d look like if you were a LEGO figure?

Once Merlin Entertainment opens Legoland New York next year, you’ll be able to find out.

On Tuesday, the owners of the $350 million theme park – which is located about 30 miles from the New Jersey border – gave a sneak peak at an attraction that will use the latest technology to transform riders into LEGO mini-figures.

Details about the LEGO Factory Adventure ride, which will be exclusive to the soon-to-be-opened theme park in Goshen, New York, were revealed Tuesday at International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Expo in Orlando, Fla.

The new attraction will use motion tracking and facial detection technology to give riders “an experience that feels like real magic,” said Peter Cliff, creative director of Holovis, the ride's technology designer.

According to Merlin, riders will join Professor Brook on a trip through the LEGO Factory and halfway through, the attraction’s vehicles will spin them until they end up face-to-face with a screen. First, they’ll see their ride vehicle transformed into LEGO elements and then – in less than 0.5 seconds - they’ll see themselves appear as LEGO mini-figures.

"With vision in hand, we looked to two of the world’s leading developers, Holovis and ETF Ride Systems, to create this first of its kind dark ride experience. I can’t wait to see the looks on our guests’ faces when they experience it," said Julie Estrada, Merlin Entertainment's head of public relations.

The park is scheduled to open on July 4, 2020.

At LEGOLAND New York, there will be more than 50 rides, shows and attractions when the park opens on its 150 acres, officials said. It'll also feature more than 15,000 Lego models made up of over 30 million pieces.

The park will be open from April through November and will be even larger than the Legoland Discovery Center coming to American Dream in the Meadowlands.

The theme park’s three tiers of Annual Passes are on sale starting at $119.99, along with single-day tickets starting as low as $62.99. All are available for purchase on LEGOLAND New York’s website: www.LEGOLAND.com/New-York.

According to Merlin, it'll be the largest Legoland park and most expensive to date and they hope it'll become a day-trip destination for families from New York City, Boston and Philadelphia. Currently there are parks in southern California and Florida. Internationally, there are locations in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Goshen approved the Legoland's development in 2017, making it the first major theme park built on the East Coast since 1982 when a Six Flags opened in Maryland.
