Sixteen people were cited for violating Belmar's pedestrian laws this month.

On July 4, the Belmar Police Department sent out a group of three officers with one goal: Make pedestrian crossing a safer environment.

Two uniformed officers were sent out to enforce pedestrian crossing laws, with one officer dressed in plain clothes attempting to cross three busy intersections with no traffic lights.

Officers conducted the detail at 9th Avenue/Ocean Avenue, 8th Avenue/Railroad Avenue and Main Street/17th Avenue.

As a result, officers issued 16 citations related to pedestrian crosswalk laws.
