Belmar Introduces Bamboo Ordinance
The ordinance looks to curtail the possible spread of running bamboo.
BELMAR, NJ – At their meeting on Tuesday night, the Belmar borough council introduced an ordinance that would have the planting or growing of running bamboo banned in the borough.
Running bamboo is widely known as an invasive plant species whose horizontal roots can extend up to 20 feet and take over existing plants in the area.
According to the proposed ordinance, any homeowner who doesn’t either confine or remove the species can be subjected to a $2,000 fine.
