Manasquan, Belmar Seniors Urged To Apply For NJ Tax Rebates
The program's application deadline for 2019 has been extended again; the "senior freeze" program provides relief for low-income seniors.
MANASQUAN — Senior citizens in Manasquan and Belmar have additional time to apply for the 2019 New Jersey property tax rebate after state officials again extended the deadline.
The rebate program, also referred to as the "senior freeze" program, reimburses eligible senior citizens and disabled people for property tax or mobile home park site fee increases on their principal residence. To qualify, residents must meet all the eligibility requirements for each year from the base year through the application year.
The new application deadline is Feb. 1.

According to the Elder Economic Security Standard, the average Social Security benefit provides an elderly person living alone at the Jersey Shore only 54 to 76 percent of the amount needed to cover basic expenses. Moreover, elders living alone on an income equivalent to the federal poverty guideline can cover only 36 to 51 percent of their basic living expenses.
