Six-time national champion Alsyia Montano was tripped up on the second lap and fell to the track. She finished in 3:06.67.

“This race has been my goal for so very long,” said Montano. “To see it cut short like this is difficult to take. It’s very hard to describe my emotions at this time.”

Two-time NCAA champion Raevyn Rogers of Oregon, a hometown favorite, wound up fifth in 2:00.50, and another top contender, Brenda Martinez, finished seventh in 2:06.63. USATF spokesman Jill Geer said that the results would stand, with no chance of a rerun.

“Certainly I feel sorry for all the others,” said Wilson. “I know how they must feel right now. I’ve had some tough luck of my own in the past. But that’s this sport; that’s track.”
