BELMAR—The Borough of Belmar announced on April 29 that new paid parking zones would go into effect starting May 1. People parking will have to pay through the ParkMobile app.

These are the paid parking zones, all of which have a six-hour maximum:

  • Zone 1: East side of Ocean Avenue - $1 an hour from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Zone 2: All Interior Parallel Parking Spots on 5th and 6th Avenues around Silver Lake wrapping around to Ocean Avenue - $2 an hour from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Zone 3: South side of North Boulevard from Ocean Ave to B Street - $2 an hour from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Zone 6: The east side of the Marina Grille and the island west of the 10th Avenue and Highway 35 marina entrance - $2 an hour from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The resident response online has not been happy with people asking if there will be permits for residents as a lot of these spots, especially around Silver Lake, are used by year-round residents. Questions about the lateness of the paid parking and the selection of parking spots have also been raised.

“As a resident, we were never contacted prior to the borough installing this new rule,” Michael Boyle, a resident of 5th Avenue said. “It would have been nice to receive notice, so there could have been a public comment period.”

The Borough of Belmar did not respond to requests for comment.
