Repairs To Begin On Glimmer Glass Bridge In Manasquan

MANASQUAN – Repairs to the Glimmer Glass Bridge will be performed upon the arrival of the new bridge motor and gearbox, which is anticipated to arrive early next month.

The existing bridge motor and gearbox are currently broken, forcing the bridge closure on Saturday, Oct. 3.

“The Glimmer Glass Bridge has been closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic since early October due to mechanical failure, which needed to be thoroughly investigated for the safety of our residents and visitors,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering.

“The new motor and gearbox are anticipated to arrive at the beginning of December and repairs are expected to begin upon arrival. The county has been working diligently to conduct an in-depth investigation of the bridge failure and plans on having the bridge fully functional by mid-December.”

The bridge continues to operate normally for marine traffic, but is closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Bridge operators will remain stationed onsite 24/7 to ensure safe marine travels.

In total, the county maintains of approximately 1,000 lane miles of roads, 924 bridges and culverts and 239 traffic signals and beacons.
