A 64-year-old woman was critically hurt this week by a vehicle, according to police.

The accident happened at 3:08 p.m. on Monday when the unidentified woman was struck while crossing south on 8th Avenue near the Senior Center building, police said.

The 64-year-old pedestrian was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where she is still listed in critical condition, police said.

The operator of the vehicle, an 83-year-old, Avon resident, did not sustain any injury as a result of the accident. 8th Avenue was closed for several hours following the incident in both directions.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Belmar Police Department Detective Bureau, Det./Capt. Thomas Cox and Traffic Safety Unit Officers PO Michael Allen and PO Joseph Clayton.
