2nd Boil Water Advisory Lifted In Manchester

The advisory had been in effect for Whiting residents with city water since Wednesday evening.

MANCHESTER, NJ — A boil water advisory that had been in effect since Wednesday in the Whiting area has been lifted, officials said Friday morning.

A Nixle alert issued about 11:45 a.m. said follow-up testing checking the safety of the water after a failure in the treatment system found the water is safe for drinking again.

Officials with the Manchester West Water Utility said the failure at the treatment plant at Schoolhouse and Conestoga roads affected disinfection of the water. That treatment plant serves parts of the township utility's Western Water Distribution System in the Whiting area.

Mayor Ken Palmer said a chlorine pump at the treatment plant failed. It was promptly fixed, but out of an abundance of caution, the state Department of Environmental Protection requested the boil water alert until the water was tested with the new pump operating.
