Firefighters Rescue Kitten From Manchester Storm Drain: Photos
When the wayward feline found itself in a predicament, firefighters responded to lend a helping hand.
MANCHESTER, NJ — A kitten that found itself in a scary predicament Tuesday was rescued thanks to the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company.
Laura Morgan of Whiting witnessed the incident on Tuesday and shared her photos and observations with Patch.
She saw the kitten in a storm drain on Schoolhouse Drive and called animal control, but animal control was not available, so she called the Manchester police department, Morgan said.

Within minutes, police, firefighters and an EMT arrived "dressed in their gear," she said. "They were ready for anything."
They assessed the situation then set to work, and it took them about 25 minutes to get the kitten out. "One firefighter had to crawl through the piping to grab the kitten," she said. An EMT took the kitten and was going to adopt it, she said.

"They were amazing," Morgan said. "Imagine if it were a fire. Whiting is very lucky to have these volunteers. If you notice the age group that responded, we have nothing to worry about."
"A shout out to the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company," she said. "And a shout out to Manchester police for taking this poor kitten's life seriously."
