Happy Father’s Day From Brian Gross

"Your life lessons taught me how to be a good dad and an even better grandfather."

In celebration of Father's Day on Sunday June 17, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their father and let us deliver it. This is Brian Gross's letter to his dad:

Dear Dad,

So many Father’s Days have come and gone without you. But this year I have so much to celebrate, and it’s all because of you. I know that you know I’m a dad, but more importantly, I have been a grandfather for over two years.

Elliana, which means “my prayers are answered,” has been everything that’s right with the world to me. Now she speaks in full sentences and reminds me to please not color on her paper or sing. You and I, Dad, have probably the worst singing voices in the whole family. I remember what you said, “I didn’t say I could sing. I said I like to sing.“ That’s exactly what I tell Elliana.

I am also celebrating the skills you passed on to me to be a good dad and grandpa just like you. The trips you took us on, the movies we went to see, the special shopping trips early Sunday morning to pick up breakfast items while everyone slept and the little driving lessons in a big open parking lot so I wouldn’t hit anything — I wouldn’t trade those times for the world.

Your life lessons taught me how to be a good dad and an even better grandfather. For that I will love you always. Happy Father’s Day, Dad!

Love,
Brian
