Man Accused Of Drunken Driving With 7 Kids In Car: Lakehurst PD

None of the children were wearing seat belts when the car was pulled over because it was being driven erratically, Lakehurst police said.

LAKEHURST, NJ — Lakehurst police say a Lakewood man has been charged with child endangerment, accused of driving while intoxicated with seven children, none of whom were wearing seatbelts.

Paulino Rosendo- Camargo, 36, was arrested June 5 following a motor vehicle stop about 11:15 p.m., Lakehurst Police Chief Matthew J. Kline said.

Lakehurst Officer Gavin Cecchini was on patrol saw a vehicle driving erratically and pulled it over, Kline said.

As Cecchini investigated, he saw the seven children, none of whom were wearing seatbelts, and the driver, Rosendo-Camargo, was showing signs of being under the influence of alcohol, Kline said.

Rosendo-Camargo was charged with driving while intoxicated and the children were taken into protective custody by officers until a responsible adult could take custody of them, Kline said.

Rosendo-Camargo was charged with:

  • Second-degree endangering the welfare of a child
  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Reckless Driving
  • Failure to maintain lane of travel
  • Delaying traffic
  • Child restraint required

Kline said he was released pending court.
