Manchester Couple Hurt In Fatal Head-On Route 539 Crash
Police say the man who died was trying to pass one vehicle on Route 539 and hit the couple's vehicle head-on in the process.
PLUMSTED, NJ — A New Egypt man died and two Manchester residents were injured Wednesday in a three-vehicle crash when a car trying to pass a pickup truck hit another pickup truck head-on, Plumsted police said.
The New Egypt man, who was 37, died at the scene of the crash that happened shortly before 8 p.m. on Route 539, also known as Pinehurst Road, police said.
Police say the New Egypt man was driving the car that hit the pickup head-on; the force of the collision caused his car to spin and hit the pickup truck he was trying to pass, they said.

The Manchester couple, both 77, were in the pickup truck that was hit head-on, police said. The man who was driving was flown to one hospital with serious injuries, and the woman who was his passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
The 21-year-old Manchester woman who was driving the pickup truck the New Egypt man was passing was not injured, police said.

Authorities did not release the names of any of those involved in the crash, which remains under investigation.
