MANCHESTER, NJ — The Manchester Township Council has appointed Robert Hudak as the township's new mayor, replacing Kenneth Palmer who resigned last week to become a Superior Court judge.

Hudak has served as a township councilman since the beginning of 2020. He was elected in November 2019 to finish out the term of Charles Frattini and then re-elected to a full term in November.

On Monday, he was nominated to replace Palmer, then joined by his wife, Ellen, and their three children while he took the oath of office.

Hudak said he wants Manchester to keep building on the positive changes in the town that happened during Palmer's six-plus years in office.

"I am honored that the council chose me to be the next mayor of Manchester Township," he said. "I am looking forward to working with all of you and I think we will continue to do great things for the township."

"Hudak brings a wealth of experience in government service," said Councilman Sam Fusaro, who nominated Hudak. "His experience in numerous towns throughout New Jersey provides him with a great perspective."

"I want to continue our efforts to keep taxes low, support local businesses, and keep our community safe," Hudak said. "I look forward to working with the Township Council on building upon our successful record and bringing new businesses to town while keeping the rural character of our community."

Hudak has more than 20 years of experience serving in local and state government as a department director, planner, zoning officer, legislative aide. He holds a master's degree in public administration from Villanova University and a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Montclair State University.

Hudak is a New Jersey-licensed land use planner and has served both public and private entities as both a planner and land use expert.

In his spare time, he is an instructor for the Rutgers University Center for Government Services. He and his family have been involved in numerous community activities including Little League, Boy Scouts, and competitive dance.

Hudak and his family live in the Pine Lake Park section of Manchester. His wife is a school social worker, and his three children all attend Manchester Public Schools.

Palmer announced his resignation Friday, after he was notified that the New Jersey Senate confirmed his appointment to the bench, which he said had long been a career aspiration. Read more: Palmer Confirmed As Judge, Steps Downs As Manchester Mayor
