Manchester Girls Soccer Team Quarantines After COVID-19 Exposure

Members of the varsity are quarantining for 14 days after a Jackson Liberty player tested positive, officials said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Members of the Manchester Township High School girls soccer team are quarantining after a potential exposure to the coronavirus, Manchester Superintendent David Trethaway announced Friday.

Trethaway said the district was contacted Thursday by the Jackson Township School District and told that a member of the Jackson Liberty girls soccer team had tested positive for the virus.

Manchester played Jackson Liberty on Tuesday, and after a discussion with the Ocean County Health Department, it was decided the Manchester girls team should quarantine, Trethaway said.

"It is important that these athletes remain at home and participate in school instruction on a remote basis," Trethaway said.

Jackson schools officials said two people at Jackson Liberty have tested positive and all students at the high school have been moved to remote instruction through Oct. 30. All Jackson Liberty athletics games and practices are suspended until further notice.

Trethaway reminded Manchester parents to be vigilant.

"Please continue to remind your child to take the required safety precautions of social distancing, mask wearing, and thorough hand washing to remain safe and healthy," he said. "Also please continue to monitor your child’s health, fill out the health questionnaire each day, and keep your child home if they are not feeling well."
