Manchester Hosting Tree Seedlings Giveaway

The giveaway is part of New Jersey's Tree Recovery Campaign, to replace trees damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Manchester Township residents will be able to get free tree seedlings to plant at their homes through a state distribution effort set for April 23 and 24.

The New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign is distributing tree seedlings throughout the state. The Manchester giveaway will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manchester Town Hall, 1 Colonial Dr. The campaign is distributing seedlings to replace trees damaged or destroyed during Superstorm Sandy.

Coronavirus safety guidelines will be followed, so everyone must wear a mask to receive seedlings, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The trees come with instructions on how to store, care for, and plant them. The guides help residents choose the right place on a property to plant a tree while keeping in mind the tree’s full-grown size in the future.

Residents should plant the seedlings within two days after pick-up in order to prevent the roots from drying out.

The campaign has distributed more than 500,000 seedlings.

The distribution in Manchester is a joint effort of the township, New Jersey State Forest Service, New Jersey Soil Conservation Districts, Sustainable Jersey, Arbor Day Foundation, Brothers International, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Wyndham Vacation Resorts, and FedEx.
