Manchester Named Top Place To Retire In NJ By Forbes
The township was highlighted for its low rate of serious crimes and ratio of doctors to people.

MANCHESTER, NJ — For the second time in three years, Manchester Township is has been named the best place to retire in New Jersey by Forbes magazine.
The magazine, which focuses primarily on financial matters, ranked Manchester as the top town in New Jersey to retire in 2020 based on several factors, including its low rate of violent crimes such as rape or murder; the number of physicians relative to the number of residents, and air quality. Forbes named the top two townsForbes named the top two towns in every state in addition to the overall honors, which highlighted the 25 best in the nation. The magazine looked at more than 750 towns of at least 10,000 residents.

"The biggest factors we take into account involve money, including median home prices, the overall cost of living compared with the national average, and state taxes, including special income tax exemptions for Social Security and other retirement income and state estate/inheritance taxes," the magazine said.
Manchester Township Mayor Ken Palmer noted the ranking during Monday's Township Council meeting, noting the township has been ranked at or top in the past. In 2018 it was the top town in New Jersey as well.

The town's location, near both New York and Philadelphia, its median home prices and high number of doctors were praised. The only negative: "Not very walkable."
