Manchester Residents: Recycle Gift Wrap, Christmas Trees, Old Computers

Ocean County officials are reminding residents to recycle everything they can, such as electronics, Christmas trees, and paper items.

Televisions, computers and electronic devices are no longer accepted with household trash, officials said. But they can be brought to either of the two Ocean County Regional Recycling Centers can take unwanted electronics. They are located in Lakewood and Stafford.

The following electronics are accepted free of charge: televisions, computers, laptops, monitors, DVD players, VCRs, fax machines, desktop printers, speakers and stereos.

Residents also are encouraged to check with their town’s Public Works Department to see if these items are accepted locally.

Recyclable paper can be added to single stream recycling, officials said. This includes holiday cards, envelopes, wrapping paper, tissue paper, gift bags, corrugated boxes, catalogs and junk mail.

“The more we recycle the more room saved at the landfill,” Freeholder James Lacey said.

In addition, peanuts and other packaging materials can be brought to a local mailing center.

Christmas trees can also be dropped off at a county recycling center or one of the county’s designated parks. From there, it is used as wood chips and landscaping materials.

Christmas trees can be dropped off at the following county park locations through Jan. 10:

• Lake Shenandoah County Park, 600 Ocean Ave., Lakewood
• Beaver Dam County Park, 3430 Bridge Ave., Point Pleasant
• Freedom Fields County Park, 874 Route 539, Little Egg Harbor Township
• Cattus Island County Park, 1170 Cattus Island Blvd., Toms River
• Wells Mills County Park, 905 Route 532, Ocean Township
• Patriots’ County Park, 483 Bowman Road, Jackson Township

Lacey also reminded residents they can sell, give away or trade household items at the Ocean County 2Good2Waste Exchange website.
