Manchester Schools Closed Thursday; Storm Reminders Issued

Township officials are urging residents to make sure vehicles are off the streets to allow for efficient plowing.

MANCHESTER, NJ — The Manchester Township School District will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 4, due to the impending winter storm.

District officials announced the closure Wednesday night in the wake of a blizzard warning issued by the National Weather Service. The warning includes a forecast of winds gusting to 50 mph and as much as 6 inches of snow.

Lakehurst Elementary School is closed as well.

The district calendar does not have emergency closure days built in; snow days are typically added to the end of the school year.

In addition to the school closures, Manchester officials are reminding residents to get vehicles off the roads to allow for efficient plowing. They also urge residents to clear snow from around fire hydrants so they are accessible in an emergency.

Contact friends and relatives to ensure they are prepared and do not need assistance. If you feel you might need to, stay with a friend, neighbor or relative for the duration of the storm -- do not wait until it is too late.
