Manchester Schools Looking To Move To 5 Days In Person

The possible move to five days of in-person instruction is the result of the success of schools moving to four days of in-person classes.

Manchester Township High School and middle school have been holding four days of in-person instruction. The district may move to five days at the end of April.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Manchester Township students and staff could return to five days a week of in-person instruction as soon as the start of the fourth marking period, the superintendent said.

In a letter to parents just before Spring Break, Superintendent David Trethaway said the district's move to four days of in-person classes had been successful — so much so that more parents were requesting to have their children moved from hybrid instruction to four days, particularly for middle and high school students.

"We are looking at the potential for moving to a five-day schedule at the end of April which coincides with the beginning of the fourth marking period," he said. "If that is the case, we will be considering eliminating the hybrid option and offering parents and students the choice of a five-day in-person instruction or remote instruction for the remainder of the school year."

He said a waiting list has been compiled for students seeking to move to four-day instruction and the requests are being addressed on a case-by-case basis.

"I also want to assure parents that our teachers will continue to address the needs of those students who are continuing with remote learning," Trethaway said.

Students who are on the four-day schedule must report to school or be marked absent. Unless there are extenuating circumstances approved by the building administrator, students cannot opt to go remote on a specific day.
