Manchester Trick-Or-Treating A Go, Mayor Says

Mayor Ken Palmer said trick-or-treating will be held on Halloween, unless the state puts in place restrictions.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Yes, there will be trick-or-treating in Manchester on Halloween in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, officials said.

Mayor Ken Palmer said the annual gathering of candy will take place unless the state issues restrictions otherwise.

He made the announcement in response to a number of questions about the status of the holiday. Concerns about the possible effects of the coronavirus have altered or let to postponement of a number of regular events and activities.

Concerns about the status of trick-or-treating were heightened after the Centers for Disease Control issued guidance saying trick-or-treating was a risky proposition in the midst of the pandemic.

Gov. Phil Murphy has, so far, left the decision up to individual towns.

"We have been getting a number of inquiries about Halloween and Trick or Treating. We WILL permit Trick or Treating unless the State proscribes otherwise. Enjoy and stay safe!" Palmer said in a post on Facebook.
