NJ Weather: Hazardous Outlook; Florence Remnants Could Come

The weather's not going to be all bad. But there will be risks.

We're supposed to have a relatively calm weekend, but New Jersey could get some rough weather now that Hurricane Florence Remnants are supposed to head toward the Northeast.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for most of the state, saying minor coastal flooding is possible with Friday's afternoon high tide. Torrential downpours and flooding could come, according to AccuWeather.

If we get any remnants, they'll come Monday night and Tuesday morning. That evening, showers and thunderstorms are likely after 2 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

On Tuesday, showers and thunderstorms are likely, and some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Hurricane Florence has made landfall and is on a path of destruction that will put millions of people at risk and threaten billions of dollars in damage, according to AccuWeather. Florence officially made landfall around 7:15 a.m. near Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, as the eye wobbled ashore.

The exact track, overall size and forward speed of the storm will determine which locations along the coast receive the worst of Florence's damaging winds, heavy rain and storm surge flooding, according to AccuWeather.

But the weather pattern is expected to finally shift next week, allowing Florence, as a tropical rainstorm, to accelerate northeastward, according to AccuWeather. There is the potential for a general 3-6 inches of rain from Kentucky, West Virginia and northwestern Virginia to New Jersey, New York and New England even days after Florence moves ashore.

Areas in the West Virginia, northern Virginia, western Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are likely the most vulnerable for flash and stream flooding because of the saturated state of the ground, proximity to tropical moisture and the terrain, according to AccuWeather.
