Ocean County Bakery Bringing Its Sweet Talents To 'Cake Wars'

JenniCakes of Toms River will be participating in an episode that airs next week.

TOMS RIVER, NJ -- Another talented artist from Ocean County will be making a splash on the national scene this week.

But while Bayville's John Gilman is singing it up on "The Voice" and Jackson's Gianna Isabella Petrone is making appearances after her run into the top 20 on "American Idol," the folks at JenniCakes will be showing off artistic abilities of a far different kind -- the kind that comes as moist cake wrapped in buttercream icing.

The Toms River bakery will be competing on the Food Network show "Cake Wars," as it announced on its website.

Bakery owner Jennifer Richmond told the Asbury Park Press she had applied to be on the network's show "Cupcake Wars," but that show went off the air. However, her application grabbed the producers' attention and in September she was selected to participate in the show, she told the Asbury Park Press.

The episode she will appear on is scheduled to air next Monday, March 28, at 9 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time and is titled "Dinosaurs," according to the Food Network website.

Four cake artists will be working to capture dinosaurs in cake form, and one will have their creation as the centerpiece of a gigantic party, according to the network's website. The winner also receives a $10,000 prize.

The bakery, located on Hooper Avenue just south of Route 37, is known for an ever-changing variety of specialty cupcakes, but creates cakes for all occasions as well, from baby shower cakes to going-away party cakes that included a U.S. Army cake that was "camouflage inside and out," according to the bakery's Facebook post.

The "Dinosaurs" episode additionally airs Tuesday, March 29 at midnight and Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m.
