Kelly Clarkson, the very first winner of American Idol, was on the show and offered this bit of advice to Petrone, the daughter of 1980s pop singer Brenda K. Starr:
“You’re 15, and people have to realize that,” Clarkson said. “But at 15, to tackle a Beyonce song that’s that big of a range, is very bold.”

“I see myself in you,” Clarkson said “I used to focus so much on hitting every note that I would lose emotion. Just let go, because you have such a beautiful gift.”
Jennifer Lopez, who was friends with Petrone’s mother years ago, echoed Clarkson’s comments.
“That was not your best performance ever for me,” Lopez said. “Now is when you’re going to have to pick songs that really show your strengths if you’re going to make it all the way through.”
Watch her performance below. American Idol airs Thursday, March 3 at 8 p.m. on Fox, and every Thursday in March. The finals are the first week of April.
