Menture was thrown from the scooter onto the sidewalk and hit a traffic sign before he rolled down the embankment toward the Walgreens parking lot, he said. The scooter wound up on its side, partially on the sidewalk and partly in the road, Manco said.
Several people who witnessed the crash ran to Menture's aid, including an off-duty nurse, an off-duty police officer, a retired police officer, two off-duty EMTs, and other concerned citizens and found him unconscious and not breathing. They started CPR and Menture regained consciousness before police arrived, Manco said.
