Woman Seriously Injured In Head-On Manchester Crash: Police

Police said the driver of the second vehicle refused medical attention; the crash remains under investigation.

MANCHESTER, NJ — A Toms River woman was seriously injured Tuesday in a head-on crash on Manchester Boulevard near Route 70, police said Wednesday.

Pamela Fano, 43, of Toms River, was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center on Tuesday with a severe knee injury and a head laceration suffered in the crash, Manchester Police Capt. Todd Malland said. She was listed in serious but stable condition Wednesday, he said.

The crash was reported at 4:38 p.m. Tuesday, Malland said. The preliminary investigation found Fano, who was driving a 2017 Honda, was southbound on Manchester Boulevard when her car crossed the double yellow centerline and hit a 1997 Chevrolet rack body pickup truck, which had been towing an enclosed trailer, head-on.

The collision caused the pickup truck and its trailer to jackknife, blocking the road in both directions. The driver of the pickup, Tyler Busch, 22, of Manchester, was trapped in the truck as a result of the crash. He complained of leg pain but refused medical attention, Malland said.

Fano, who was semi-conscious, was extricated from her car by members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department.

Both Busch and Fano were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and there were no other occupants in the vehicles, Malland said.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours while police conducted the crash investigation. Assisting at the scene were EMTs from Quality Medical Transport, paramedics from MONOC, and members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department.

Patrolman Jesse Hoydis and Sgt. Antonio Ellis of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit are investigating.
