Manville Man Found Guilty In Sword Attack Over Parking Spot

MANVILLE, NJ - A Manville man was found guilty for allegedly slashing another borough resident with a sword several times over a parking spot, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael Robertson announced.

Jared Razzano, 36, of North 9th Avenue, Manville was found guilty of second-degree aggravated assault and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon in a jury trial presided over by the Honorable Judge Anthony F. Picheca, Jr.

On June 13, 2018 at around 10:28 p.m., a 911 call reported an assault in the area of Knopf Street and North 9th Avenue in Manville.

When police arrived they found a 40-year-old Manville man suffering from several deep lacerations to his head, arm and also had two of his fingers nearly severed as a result of the assault, police report.

An investigation found that Razzano returned to his home on North 9th Avenue in Manville to find his driveway partially blocked by a car. He went to the house across the street and demanded that the car be moved, according to the report.

The victim came out, apologized, and moved his car. However, Razzano then called the victim over to his driveway and started attacking him with a sword, Robertson said.

The victim then tried to block the attack with a contractor’s level, which he had gotten out of his car to return to a friend. The victim was transported to an area trauma center for emergency treatment and underwent multiple surgeries, according to the report.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 3 where Razzano is facing a term of imprisonment of five to 10 years on the second-degree aggravated assault conviction and up to 18 months imprisonment on the fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon conviction.
