Pedestrian Hospitalized, Hit By Car While In Manville Crosswalk

A Whiting woman was in the crosswalk when she was hit by an SUV driven by a Manville driver on Friday afternoon, police said.

MANVILLE, NJ — A woman walking in a Manville crosswalk was hospitalized after she was hit by an SUV on Friday, police said.

At around 2:25 p.m. Margaret Cross, 69, of Whiting was in the crosswalk at the intersection of South Main Street and Dakota Street when she was hit by an SUV driven by Joseph Markiewicz, 81, of Manville, Manville Lt. John Crater said.

Cross suffered a lower leg injury. She was transported by ambulance to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerville with non life threatening injuries, Crater said.

Markiewicz was issued a summons for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
