Video: Truck Ripped Open Like Tin Can In Manville

This is the second time in one week a truck has crashed into the same underpass in Manville.

MANVILLE, NJ — It may feel like deja vu as another tractor-trailer has crashed into a train underpass on Main Street in Manville on Thursday. This is the second time in one week a truck has crashed into the same underpass.

This crash was worse than last week's as the trailer was ripped open like a tin can. Watch the video below.

A tractor-trailer with the logo Patriot Transport Inc. was driving south on North Main Street when it crashed into the Lehigh Valley Underpass at 1:15 p.m. on July 25, said Manville Police Lt. John Crater.

The truck and trailer became wedged under the underpass and continued to drive through which completely destroyed the trailer, Crater said.

"The guy didn't even slow down," said Denise DeSantis, a Main Street business owner. "He kept on going, not sure what he was thinking."

Main Street was closed though 4:30 p.m. causing traffic to back up.

"I closed up early as no one was coming into my business since the traffic snarled up," said DeSantis.

The truck, based out of Carol Stream, Illinois was hauling hotel furniture and supplies.

There were no injuries reported and the underpass did not have any structural damage. The posted maximum height sign was destroyed and knocked down, Crater said.

The truck and trailer were removed by a heavy-duty tow company.

The driver, David Katsantones, 49, of Bartlett, Illinois was charged with disregard of a traffic control device and reckless driving.
