Yet Another Truck Crashes Into Manville Underpass

This is the third truck to get stuck under the the Lehigh Valley Underpass in less than three months.

MANVILLE, NJ — Yet another tractor-trailer has crashed into a train underpass on Thursday morning in Manville. This is the third truck to get stuck under the the Lehigh Valley Underpass in less than three months.

The tractor trailer hauling 22,000 pounds of bottled water out of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania was driving north at around 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 when it got wedged under the train underpass, said Manville Police Lt. John Crater.

The driver, Kenton Andraes Smith Hicks, 25, of Pennsylvania was charged with failure to observe warning signal and careless driving, Crater said.

The truck and trailer were removed by Mike’s Heavy Towing. Main Street was closed between South Street and Brooks Boulevard for about three hours. It reopened as of 12:30 p.m.

Engineers from the Norfolk Southern Railroad deemed the underpass safe and could find no structural damage.

Trucks continuously get stuck underneath the train underpass despite signage posted.

Previously a tractor-trailer with the logo Patriot Transport Inc. was ripped open like a tin can after it was driving south on North Main Street and crashed into the Lehigh Valley Underpass at 1:15 p.m. on July 25, said Manville Police Lt.
