CHS Students Create PSA Surrounding Teen Driver Safety
CHS's PM News class creates a PSA that raises awareness promoting safety around yellow lights.
Columbia High School’s news and TV Production program, better known as bWing Films, has launched a campaign and PSA promoting teen driver safety. The campaign, cleverly named Mellow Yellow, encourages teens as well as adults to make the right decision when it comes to yellow lights. Many drivers attempt to “beat the light,” or accelerate through an intersection to get through it before the light turns red. The goal of the initiative is to have drivers actually slow down at yellow lights, not speed up. This practice of speeding is, unfortunately, very common and extremely dangerous to the safety of drivers, passengers, and especially pedestrians. “I've been hit by three cars, each time because they ran a red light. I'm lucky enough to still be here to talk about it today but many more aren't so lucky.” (Sunny Solomon, ‘19)
The students and CHS have been chosen by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey as a Champion School, and is in competition with other schools in the state. Their PSA, written by senior Malcolm Gibbons and the bWing team and professionally produced by Civic Eye Collaborative is available on the bWing Films youtube channel.
