Deal$ Dollar Store Opens in Maplewood

Deal$ Dollar Store is open on Springfield Avenue. The 10,000 square foot store, located at the corner of Tuscan Road in the site of the former Wyman Ford car dealership, officially opened on Tuesday morning.

Manager Kimberly Avent said business had been steady throughout the day, and she expected to see an uptick when school was dismissed. She said Deal$ would be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Manager Camilo Cruz said a grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at noon.

The store's developer had said it would be more like a general merchandise store than a typical dollar store. Indeed, with spacious, well-lit aisles carrying a variety of merchandise including food, toiletries, home decor, gardening supplies and toys, Deal$ feels almost like a small-scale Target. A greeter at the front door handed out circulars and welcomed customers.

Deal$ is adjacent to a 5,000 square foot Ashley Furniture Homestore, which will open shortly. The building is located at 1713 Springfield Avenue.
