Family-Friendly Event In SOMA: Summer ‘Movies In The Park’

In Maplewood-South Orange: The free, no-alcohol movie screenings will include animated classics, "The Incredibles" and "Minions."

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Summer provides some excellent, family-friendly chances to enjoy the weather, but among them, outdoor movies rank high.

On July 18 at 6 p.m., the Maplewood Police Department will team up with the town’s Recreation Department, Cultural Affairs, SOMA Film Festival and SOMA Municipal Alliance to host the first installment of “Movies In The Park.”

The free, public screening on July 18 at Dehart Park in Maplewood will be “The Incredibles,” which begins around 7:45 p.m. The event will also include:

  • 6 p.m. - Festivities and games (a bouncy house and various games for children)
  • 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. - Magician performance, followed by a brief message/video from the MPD and the Community Service Bureau

On Aug. 23, the movie will be “Minions.” The event takes place at the Memorial Park amphitheater in Maplewood at 7:45 p.m.
