Field Station: Dinosaurs Comes to Maplewood Library

The 14-stop library tour will arrive in Maplewood on July 11.

Summer reading programs are rolling out across the nation, all linked with the theme “FIZZ, BOOM, READ!” And while each aims help children maintain or improve reading skills during their school breaks, only a few can boast a teenaged T-Rex and his handler, along with a strolling musician, crooning educational tunes about science, as catalysts for that uptick in aptitude.

Field Station: Dinosaurs, the world-class family attraction that teaches kids about our world through the science and story of dinosaurs, hits the road this summer to celebrate the New Jersey Summer Reading Program.

The 14-stop library tour will come to the Maplewood Memorial Library on July 11 at 11 a.m. Advanced registration is required.

“‘FIZZ, BOOM, READ!’ is a great summer reading program, and we’re proud to be a part of it,” said Guy Gsell, executive producer of Field Station: Dinosaurs.

This one-of-a kind summer reading program tour features the Field Station’s own Dinosaur Troubadour for dinosaur story time, a sing-a-long and dance party. Visitors to these public libraries will then meet an unbelievably life-like, roaring, breathing, 15-foot juvenile T-Rex for a prehistoric interactive experience.

“It’s important to challenge kids and to keep them learning all summer long," Gsell said. “At Field Station: Dinosaurs, that’s what we do. The history of paleontology is one of science’s great mystery stories—with intrigue, unexpected twists and brilliant detectives who crack the case. Of course, we’ll also be bringing along a walking, roaring T-Rex just to make things interesting."

There are 14 visits to New Jersey public libraries planned throughout the summer to celebrate the New Jersey Summer Reading Program. Field Station actors and puppeteers, as well as the Dinosaur Troubadour, will be on hand to entertain local children and their families.
