TO MARK ITS 20th anniversary, New Jersey Jewish Film Festival (NJJFF) is offering a series of free screenings — “fan favorites” from years past — on the 20th day of most months leading up to the March 19-29 festival.
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, film-goers will have another chance to see “Late Marriage.” This critically acclaimed feature will be screened at 12:30 p.m. at JCC MetroWest in West Orange. Chosen “Best Film” at the Ophir Awards (Israel’s Oscars) in 2001 and Israel’s submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2001 Academy Awards, it was screened during the second NJJFF.

In “Late Marriage” — described by one critic as a “harsh comedy” — Zaza (Lior Ashkenazi) is 31 years old and unmarried. His family’s Georgian-Jewish traditions dictate the requisite traits of a potential wife. When his parents discover the reason he has dodged their determined efforts to find him a suitable match — he’s in love with a decidedly unsuitable 34-year-old divorcee (Ronit Elkabetz) — Zaza must choose between tradition and the yearnings of his heart.
Founded by Livingston residents Caren and Herb Ford, NJJFF has become an important cultural event for the Jewish community. The 20th annual festival will again offer feature films, documentaries, and shorts from around the world, many of them award-winning, and celebratory events. Experts, local clergy, and filmmakers will lead discussions at many of the screenings.

Individuals, synagogues, and organizations are invited to become NJJFF sponsors and receive a range of benefits. Group sponsorship includes the opportunity to select the sponsored film, to reserve a JCC room for a constituents’ event, and receive a number of complimentary and discounted tickets.
