Happy Birthday, Maplewood Memorial Library!

Hundreds gather for music, activities and birthday cake to toast library's centennial.

Today, April 30 is the official 100th birthday of the Maplewood Memorial Library. To commemorate the occasion, staff at both the Main Branch and the Hilton Branch hosted family-friendly events complete with live music from a local band, face painting and a very special birthday cake.

At the Main Branch, the band was 'The Collectives,' comprised of Columbia High School sophomores Jack Goldberg, Sam Gomberg and Zack Hienz. The cake -- a vanilla sheet cake with raspberry jam and buttercream -- was baked by The Able Baker.

Library Director Sarah Lester and Board President Katherine Hilaire thanked visitors for being there and reminded them about the upcoming Centennial Quiz Show on May 23, one of several events planned for this year.

Lester pointed out two paintings of the original library buildings before the main library moved to its current space, and said she one day hoped to be able to add a photo of the library of the future.
