Jefferson 'Claps Out' Class of 2013
The last-day ritual draws parents, friends and brings tears.
Jefferson School said farewell to the class of 2013. The fifth graders were "clapped out" on Tuesday, the last day of school. Â The school community -- including students, teachers, staff and parents -- gathered in front of Jefferson School to line a walkway. At principal Susan Grierson's signal, the fifth graders left the building and made a victory lap to the sounds of applause and cheers.
The annual ritual signals dismissal for the summer, but that's not all good news. Students and adults were seen wiping their eyes as they said farewell until the fall.
