Knitters: Join KnitKnack's Yarn Crawl
Statewide, four-day event promoting the fiber arts kicks off April 18.

Local knitters are gearing up for the third annual Garden State Yarn Crawl (GSYC), which runs from April 18-21. Maplewood's favorite yarn store, KnitKnack, will participate for the second year, offering special events, discounts and promotions.

"It’s like a pub crawl except that [customers] hop from yarn shop to yarn shop," said Knitknack owner Meera Kothari Cho.Â
Formerly known as the Northern NJ Yarn Crawl, the GSYC is a free, organized four-day event that encourages customers to support local yarn and craft shops. Sixteen independent yarn and knit supply retailers throughout Northern New Jersey band together to support the fiber arts and their shops.

Participants can enter to win one of 16 raffle baskets filled with products from the stores, sponsoring yarn companies and manufacturers.Â
Cho said KnitKnack will host daily events, including guest designers, trunk shows and yarn tastings plus great specials on kits the shop is producing just for the event.
"There are door prizes throughout the four days and we have special gift baskets of our own (in addition to the official GSYC basket) we'll be raffling off. So it promises to be a treat for every yarn lover," she said.
