Longtime Maplewood Resident Alan Caruba Passes Away

The chemical and pest control publicity man was a prolific and respected journalist and writer.

Alan Caruba, a longtime Maplewood resident and chemical and pest control publicity man, died on June 15.

The Newark-born graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood was 77.

Caruba was a reporter and columnist for the Morris County (NJ) Record before founding The Caruba Organization in 1970 and handling PR for many clients in the pest control industry.

He was a founding member and charter member of the National Book Critics Circle. He also was a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, American Society of Journalists and Authors and the National Association of Science Writers.
