Man Accused of Stealing, Breaking Into Cars on Newark Way

Irvington resident charged with theft and burglary following last week's incidents in Maplewood.

An Irvington man has been accused of stealing one vehicle and breaking into two others on Newark Way, Maplewood Police said.

Christopher Ransom, 42, was charged with burglary and theft of movable property. Ransom was also charged by the Union and Mountainside police departments for similar offenses, Maplewood Sgt. Christopher Black said.

Officers responded to a report of a car ramming the gate to a tow yard on Newark Way last Tuesday at about 2:45 a.m., Black said.

Officers found one car had been stolen and several others had been entered and had radios stolen, Black said.

Maplewood detectives found the stolen car in Irvington the next day, and with help from the Union Police Department were able to locate and arrest Ransom, Black said.
