Man Who Conspired to Rob Maplewood Business Gets 225 Months in Prison

He has been ordered to pay $72,518 in restitution after robbing 17 businesses.

A judge sentenced a Newark man who committed 17 armed robberies, including one at the MS&K Confectionary in Maplewood, to 225 months in prison, U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said today.

Bobby Dawson, 31, initially pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge William Walls when he faced one count carjacking, one count of conspiring to commit Hobbs Act robberies and one count of discharging a firearm during the commission of one of those robberies.

Dawson robbed the Maplewood confectionary April 1, 2013 by threatening the clerk with a gun. When the clerk refused to hand over money, Dawson fired, ordered him to lie down and stole $9,000 from the register.
