Maplewood Approves $39.6M Budget, 2.5% Tax Hike
Township allowed to surpass state-mandated 2 percent cap.

The Maplewood Township Committee voted Tuesday night to approve a final 2013 budget of $39.6, an increase of just under 2 percent over last year.Â
Earlier this year, the committee had agreed to use banked cap from prior years to arrive at an operating budget that will increase taxes by 2.5 percent in 2013. (The township is allowed to go over the state-mandated 2 percent tax cap by using cap it has "banked" or saved up in previous years when it raised taxes by less than 2 percent.)
Last year's budget included a 1.99 percent tax increase; in 2011 there was a zero percent increase.
