Maplewood Artists' Work on Display at Fair

Works by dozens of artists will be offered for less than $500.

The remarkable contemporary art collection of a postal clerk and reference librarian is once again the inspiration for an affordable art fair at the Montclair Art Museum. The art fair includes the work of Maplewood artist Laura Gilkey.

The works of more than two dozen local artists will be offered for under $500 to promote the collection of art at the fourth annual "Collecting Art: An Affordable Art Fair," Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Leir Hall.

The first affordable art fair was held in October 2010 in conjunction with the exhibition Living for Art: The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection. The Vogels were a working class American couple that assembled an incredible collection of contemporary art despite their limited means.
