MAPLEWOOD, NJ - A new name will greet visitors visiting 170 Maplewood Ave. as The Tenth Muse Gallery is reopening Saturday as Maker + Muse. The grand opening celebration will be held in-store and begin a ribbon cutting at 11:45 a.m in front of the store with Maplewood Township Officials in attendance.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Maker + Muse will be donating a portion of proceeds from the day’s sales to breast cancer research, and will also be offering special discounts and giveaways to Grand Opening attendees.

A New Vision

Following a change of ownership last November, The Tenth Muse Gallery began a slow transition into what would eventually become Maker + Muse. New owner Brian Dittmar closed The Tenth Muse Gallery in August to make way for extensive renovations to both the interior and exterior of the shop. The changes, however, are more than surface-level, said Dittmar.

“While the store has always been known for carrying the work of independent artists and artisans, we’re committed to celebrating our makers in a more meaningful way. Our mission is to celebrate craftsmanship and independent makers—and have fun doing it,” Dittmar said. “Just like a meal is more enjoyable when you know the local farm it came from, it’s nice to know the maker behind the handmade jewelry you’re wearing or the art that’s hanging on your wall. We plan to let our makers take center stage, not only by building lasting relationships with our independent artisans, but by making sure that our customers have the chance to 'meet the makers' behind the jewelry and other items we sell.”

Maker + Muse shoppers will be able to learn more about the artisans in-store, at events
and on the store’s website where bios of each maker can be found.

The Maker + Muse name embraces the shop’s nearly 16-year history as The Tenth Muse Gallery, while focusing on a modern future for the store — bridging the gap between independent artisans and the public through what Dittmar says is an inspiring and delightful shopping experience.

The Maker + Muse vision is to inspire customers to see life as a canvas — and to Live
Life Artfully.
