Maplewood Looking For Adult And Youth For Police Board

The township committee also responded to the death of George Floyd.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Maplewood Township Committee announced Thursday that there are two openings on the Maplewood Community Board on Police. Applications are being accepted for the following volunteer positions:

  1. One adult member, resident of Maplewood
  1. One youth member (age 16-21), resident of Maplewood

The Maplewood Community Board on Police was created to provide the community with a strong voice in law enforcement, an opportunity for open dialogue for greater transparency and accountability, and to influence and help shape the future of policing in our town while building trust and true community policing.

The deadline for application submissions is July 1, 2020.

The Township Committee also responded this week to the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.

In a nightly update, the mayor noted: "The tragic murder of George Floyd and the injustices against all black Americans is unacceptable. The Maplewood Township Committee along with the South Orange Board of Trustees stand, march, pray and kneel in solidarity with our Maplewood and South Orange community who are demonstrating, marching, and protesting for justice and equality for black men, black women, black Americans, and people of color."
